Recently, both Facebook and Instagram announced revolutionary changes to their platforms.
Perhaps the most exciting feature in Facebook’s new Messenger Platform 1.2, is the roll out of Messenger Payments. Payments are now integrated into messages, allowing businesses to sell products and services within Messenger, and making it easy for customers to shop without leaving the app.
As with other e Commerce channels, Facebook assures users that their financial information is protected and that the system is secure as payments will utilise industry-leading controls and bank-level encryption. The Payments feature is currently in Beta exclusively in the United States, but Facebook expects to expand this capability more broadly by the end of the year.
Additional features allow business owners to better customise and enhance their mobile site display within the platform, these are also in Beta and are currently only available to developers in the United States.
Instagram, a subsidiary of Facebook, has also announced a new feature. As a response to safeguarding the Instagram community and maintaining a positive and creative platform, Instagram has launched a keyword moderation tool. This feature lets users list words they consider offensive or inappropriate, and comments containing these words will be hidden from their posts.
Keyword moderation is easily accessible through the gear icon on individual users’ profiles, and users can choose their own words or choose from default words provided. The tool is an addition to Instagram’s existing safety features such as swiping to delete comments, reporting inappropriate comments, and blocking accounts.
